Bringing her successful formula from
The Junction to the beautiful relaxed
surroundings of Belmont Bay, original
owner Tevy Kang-Kem has never looked back.
Tevy sold her popular “Sesames - A Taste of Asia” Restaurant in The Junction in 2007 to spend time with their new baby and to concentrate on the restaurant in Belmont Bay. Together with partner Brad Cooper they have established a niche clientele in Lake Macquarie. Voted a category winner at the Restaurant Caterer’s State Awards for Excellence in 2003, 2005 and 2006, Sesames held the title of Best Asian Restaurant in NSW and won Best Asian Restaurant in the Hunter Region in 2007. Sesames on the Lake, last year, won the title of Best BYO Restaurant for 2009. Lake residents and holiday makers have had the delight of enjoying the award winning modern Thai cuisine. To establish a permanent location, Sesames on the Lake moved to newly-built, more spacious premises across the street from their original location 18 months ago. The busy Belmont restaurant has a relaxed ambience often described by visitors as “Noosa inspired”. Great care has been taken in the design of the new restaurant with acoustic insulation on the ceilings, carpeted floors and fully-insulated walls to absorb noise. Tevy’s Cambodian father and English mother have had a huge influence in Sesames’ success story. ”We’ve gone through a transition over the last eleven years starting with authentic Thai and Cambodian meals to a now more modern blend of “East meets West”, said Tevy. “We strive for consistency, using the freshest herbs and vegetables and distinct flavours in each dish. We’ve carefully selected dishes from different regions of South East Asia, maintaining their traditional flavours and enhancing them with our own modern unique twist.” The Salt & Pepper whole baby Snapper crispy fried Thai style and served on julienne vegetables, finished with a caramelised fresh chilli and garlic dressing is just one of the signature dishes that gets rave reviews. “If you share our passion for flavour, try our award-winning menu - you won’t be disappointed,” said Tevy. Sesames caters for banquets and group bookings. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus are available. Bookings essential on weekends - Open Tuesday to Saturday evenings from 5.30pm.
